As we have been in business for more than half a century, we have a long history of providing product branding solutions for some of Australia’s iconic products, and many of those products you won’t see around today! We like to keep copies or prototypes of the nameplates, badges and labels we have created over the years, so our archives room is overflowing with nostalgic goodies that evoke memories and are great conversation starters.
In this latest ‘from our archives’ blog, we look at three very varied items that needed three very different types of branding solutions.
The public payphone - instruction plates

For around two decades Telstra (or Telecom to those of us old enough to remember), used the CT3 (Coin Telephone number 3) model public phone. They were the boxy blue/green phones, as seen in the first picture below.
In the mid-1990s Telstra morphed them into the CT3C, the extra C stood for ‘Card’ meaning they could accept the new phone cards that came into existence at that time. This model can be seen sitting to the right of the green phone in the picture below.

Telstra chose LNI as the supplier for the front face instruction plate on the CT3C. It was made from 1mm thick aluminium, printed, anodised and punched out. The adhesive backing was laminated 1mm in from all edges. It is now nearly 30 years old and it's still a great-looking part.
This type of product is a metal nameplate.
Toyota’s RAV4 - badges

Toyota launched its RAV4 onto the world market in 1994, which essentially spelt the beginning of the compact sports utility vehicle (SUV) market segment. Toyota needed an Australian manufacturer to supply local model branding for the car – and we were honoured they chose us! The car had three RAV4 badges, one on each front door and one on the rear, and from 1994 to 1998 we created these using our Lenscal domed badge technology.

Electric model train sets - power controller

Electric model train sets were pretty popular back in the '60s and '70s. The Triang power controllers for the Australian market were made in Melbourne by Moldex Ltd, based at the time in Fairfield. We made the controller metal nameplate for these train sets back in the very early '70s when we were just becoming established. This metal nameplate is certainly a blast from the past for us.
