In this video, Michael Smith explains second surface printing, what it’s for and it's benefits. Watch the video now or read the transcription below.
What is second surface printing?
Also known as ‘back printing’, second surface printing is printing on the back of a clear film, the second surface, which is behind the actual clear label. By printing on the back of a label, the ink and the detail is protected allowing your branding to stand up to harsh chemicals and the environment.
Why branding needs to last
The brand of your product is the most vital thing for any company in the market. For any product, brand imagery plays a big role in promoting the company as a whole and is certainly something that can help spread the word about your brand and differentiate you from your competitors.
Benefits of second surface printing
- Durability-second surface printing gives incredible durability against abrasion and scratching and they are also cleaning and chemical resistant. It's not going to wipe off with chemicals or scratch off through harsh treatment.
- High-end premium look and feel - the labels can offer a very decorative look as they have texture on the surface, giving it a very up-market look.
When do you need second surface printing?
We would recommend this being the only option for industries that are subject to harsh treatment and abrasion and high UV and industrial-level cleaning, for products such as premium labels and decals. It’s also used when printing graphic panels as they are:
- Abrasion resistant
- Scratch resistant
- Cleaning resistant
- Chemical resistant
Second Surface Printing is great for extending the lifespan of your product branding. Such as on semi-trailers and medical equipment.
